Education:

Dr. Henry R. Smith is an honors graduate of each university attended.

Dr. Henry R. Smith was awarded status as a Certified Diplomate of the American Psychotherapy Association (APA) in 1998. Designation as a Certified Diplomate is limited to a select group of professionals who, by virtue of their extensive training and expertise, have demonstrated outstanding ability. The rigid requirements for this recognition attest the Diplomate's personal integrity and professional accomplishments.

Individuals approved for Certified Diplomate status must achieve proficiency in a variety of topics, procedures, ethical standards and meet rigorous criteria of the certification program which includes specific areas of knowledge, skill, training, and experience in the art and science of applied psychology.

Personal History and Life Experience:

After completing high school and one semester of college by age 17, Dr. Henry R. Smith joined the U.S. Navy, where he completed training as an Electronics Technician, and served within the U.S. Navy Submarine Service.  Dr. Smith received a commendation for an intelligence gathering mission as a Viet Nam era veteran.

Upon Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Navy, Dr. Smith continued college while concurrently pursuing various business enterprises, including automotive, insurance, securities, and real estate. Real estate oriented businesses became his primary focus including land development and the acquisition/renovation of motel, hotel, and restaurant businesses.  Having achieved sufficient wealth to retire by his mid thirties, Dr. Smith spent a few months in his oceanfront home on Monterey Bay before realizing that being idle was not fulfilling.  Reactivation of his business career led to further ventures within the hospitality and resort industry, publication of a visitor magazine, and ultimately completing a graduate education in psychology.

As a Doctor of Psychology, Dr. Smith worked with businesses, individuals, and groups seeking resolution to various personal and professional issues.  In 1998, the decision was made to relocate from California to Hawaii on a full time basis.   Business Consulting and Coaching remain a significant part of Dr. Smith's life, but the primary focus has become a return to real estate oriented interests.

Dr. Smith is happily married to his best friend, Faith Carlin, MD, an Obstetrician and Gynecologist in private practice in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.   They share a wonderful son, Henry R. Smith III, a graduate of UCLA, who worked briefly as a film and television actor before becoming a global account executive within the telecom industry.  Today, Henry III is a sales manager for Hilton Hotels Vacation Club at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort on Oahu, HI.  Henry III also assists Dr. Smith with the management of family business interests.

"Hank and Faith" enjoy scuba diving, photography, movies, tennis, live theatre, and traveling/cruising.
